For an Indian tourist who wishes to go to Bhutan, do they need visa to travel to Bhutan? If not, what are the documents necessary?
No, Visa is not required to travel to Bhutan for Indian guests. Instead a travel permit/route permit is mandatory, which can be obtained from regional immigration office in Phuentsholing, if travelling over land. For those who opt to travel by air with valid passport, the routes permit are issued at Paro airport immigration.
Documents reqired for the issuance of route permit:
1.Valid passport or Indian Voter’s identity card.
2.Passport validity should be more than 6 month at the time of travel.
3.Two passport size photos.
For the family travelling with kids below 17 yrs old with no Voter cards and passports, in such case, Birth certificate and school identity card is imperative.
The following documents that are not valid for travel in Bhutan for Indian tourists.
